The Day of the Church Rafters

On Monday, Bill and Joel went up to Nogales, looking to see if they could hire a crane to come during a work team to put up the church rafters. On Wednesday morning the crane driver called and said he would be passing by and wondered if he could just come in the afternoon to save us some money. The mad scramble began in the morning to get ready for the placement of the rafters. The crane arrived and CVE staff and kids showed up to offer our help. The crane driver commented, "Wow, everyone is here!"

Setting the first rafter

The crane operators began to get into the festivities. Probably after some of Jeanie's sponge cake!

Bill and Seth bring the next rafter.
Joel and José show their monkey skills.

Fede and Franc take a break from the work...if only Franc would agree to this all the time.

The last rafter on the sanctuary is placed as the sun starts to set.

We all improved greatly in our abilities to construct and destruct scaffolding and scrambled to begin work on the kitchen, lunchroom and Sunday School rooms.

The crane operators chatted with the kids.

Working against the setting sun in the dining room.

José welds in the last x-brace before we had to call it a night. The crane operators are coming back today (Friday) around noon to set the last four rafters. Overall, the day of everyone working together left everyone with a few sore muscles and lots of great memories. I was struck yesterday of the beautiful blessing it is that the CVE kids literally helped build their church.

"Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

Acts 4:10-12

It's always such a blessing to "pull together". And you're so right...what a blessing that the kids could help build their own church! Praising God for the protection HE provided all of you as a you tackled a project of this magnitude! HE is so good!

That is amazing! Yay for kind crane operators, yay for the church getting closer to done, YAY for CVE!

What a great experience for the kids to get in on the construction. We miss being close enough to stop in, but remember you often in prayer.

Tell the kids to keep building!
