INVASION!

Seemingly intoxicated by the light, these "attack dive beetles" (not sure of official name, some call them June Bugs, although they started in late August) come out en masse when the sun has set. They lack control of not flying into people and when entering a lit area, one can expect to hear the now familiar sound of one of them dive-bombing towards you. My normal procedure after I hear the noise is freeze, hold my breath and shut my eyes until I feel the "whap" of impact. Then the beetle falls to the ground, upside down and slowly paws the air until it's death. I am unsure of the exact time they live, but by morning, they are all dead.

The dying beetles outside the schoolroom door.

A lone beetle on the fly strip.

We no longer are facing lice as our biggest hair-infesting problem.

David shows he is not scared of the beetles and shows his bravery by having an open mouth as they fly towards him.

Confession time: Parts of this post may have been exaggerated or staged to contribute to the overall "funny factor." A big thanks to Joel and David who cooperated so beautifully. :)

I will close with a true quote from a brave comrade of mine. As Jenna and I walked to the house last night and she once again confessed her deep fear of any kind of "shelled" creature and we reflected on the fact that they fly into her more than any other person, she said, "You know how dogs can tell when someone has fear of them and then they attack? I think it is the same with these stupid june bugs...sigh." It is okay Jenna, stay strong, as soon as June is over this plague shall leave us.

Ohhhhh Amy ~

Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck!
I know you staged the hair picture, but that made my tummy do a flip flop. I deal with itchy head critters frequently (at school, not at home fortunately). If I ever find something like that in my critter searches, I think I'll faint.

Love you ~ Teresa
