Summer classes

Guest Blogger #4
Carissa

It is almost hard to believe that summer school is now on its fifth week! The class schedule this summer has expanded quite a bit from last year. We still meet from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. but we have added several more classes and teachers. We have five different “classrooms” with seven different maestros (teachers)--Denise and I are each teaching a variety of remedial classes, Stephanie teaches English and art, Vero teaches advanced writing and reading, Marie teaches music, and Limón and Pepe are in charge of the “alternate class” for the boys (Limón) and girls (Pepe), which includes spelling, geography, and study/homework time.

The kids hover at the escuelita (schoolroom) door, waiting for us to ring the bell so they can come get their folders. (This is an accurate picture of most mornings anytime after 9:00 and up until 9:55! Sometimes I feel like I live in a zoo, but I'm thankful for their enthusiasm!)

The kids make a line at the door to get their folders before classes.

(Left) Francisco reads aloud in one of the reading classes. (Below) Armando and Michel B. work on summarizing a story.

Carla Liliana, Michel Edith, and Paola do math problems on the board.

We have about two and a half weeks left of summer classes. Then we will break for VBS, and give the kids a few weeks off before the new school year starts again!

Work on the accreditation for a school of our own is progressing. Please join us in praying that God will provide Christian Mexican teachers and a director for our school!

Carissa, you continually amaze me with the organization and planning you do... maybe I should learn to do it a little better?!? Thanks for the post... :)

What eager minds, all lined up at the door like that! I'll bet they're learning better during these few weeks in the summer than the whole regular school year combined...

Mom, yes, you'll miss summer school and I don't know about preschool. Our "preschool" has shrunk quite a bit this summer.

Steph, I would say that I find myself often praising God for providing, knowing how little I plan at times and the organization...well, just don't look at my "teacher shelf"!

I think a lot of the clamor to be inside the escuelita is/was due to the cooler. It hasn't been working of late and the "zoo" outside the door has lessened a little. But I still hear comments every so often about the classes they enjoy and that is encouraging. God provides and I do think they are learning. :)
