A few signs Summer is rapidly approaching:
Mud Pies
One of the girls' new favorite activities is creating masterpieces out of dirt and water...It reminds me of a happy summer days spent working on our creations at the Fisher Price picnic table. :)

Lili, Karla J, and Yaneli show their creative genius.

Summer Kittens
The new gatitos are popular with the kids. So popular that it would almost be called abuse. ;) (Notice the masking tape around the kitten's leg. That is it's name band.)

I told Gabi to smile in this picture...instead he did his "mad face." The kittens have really made me miss you Jeffy!
The Arrival of Summer Staff

We have been joined by some stellar individuals making up our summer staff. Steph Gerst and Brittany Streitmatter make LOTS of cookies for the weekend.
Dirty Kids

If the little kids are clean they must feel as if they have unfinished business and proceed to get comfy in the dirt. Here Momo shows me the gum he found in the dirt. He asked if he could eat it.
Backyard Baseball
The kids love playing Baseball...just not by the rules. They love to hit, but no one likes to field, catch or throw, just hit. A team asked if they could come and play this Friday. It was a team of 4, 5, and 6 year olds. Almost humorous until they showed up and all of the CVE children immediately started to lament, "WE ARE GOING TO LOSE!" Repeating what I have heard so many times during my life, "It isn't who wins or loses, it is how you play the game, have fun," didn't really ease their fears. One of the kids yelled, "You didn't tell us they were professionals!"
The other teams parents were a little more intent that their kids would win so it definitely led to some funny/tense moments. :)

Our Rag-Tag team. It felt like we were on Sandlot.

The team comes onto the field.

The other team of "professionals."

The nonplayers on the bench sport their, "Oh no, we are definitely going to lose to 5-year-olds face."

While some worked hard at fielding, others showed of their special baseball abilities. Blanca picked flowers in the outfield and Paola can balance the bat on one finger.

Aaron can balance a car on the bat.

Fastball? Notice the size of the little player in white. I am pretty sure he just quit crawling last week!

It ended up a good experience as they let Yaneli have at least 20 strikes and we came out about evenly matched. Maybe our kids will want to learn the rules now? I don't know, doubtful. :) As Limón suggested, "Maybe we should challenge them in soccer?"
Wow, sorry, it was just going to be a short post...I will leave hopscotch and the reading program for another post!

Ha! SO funny to see those little "professionals" out there looking like serious contenders!
Ames,
The baseball narrative has me laughing out loud! The picture of Joel dramatically winding up by that little boy is a classic shot! Thanks for sharing this!
