We had our first picking of the sweetcorn on Saturday. It is delicious corn, actually it is of the "Incredible Sweetcorn" variety. We did have to battle against lots of worms, "character building" we said. I actually had to tell myself that, over and over, especially when Uriel threw a really juicy, gross one at my head.

Those at the husking station were those that we didn't trust to use a knife to clean the corn and those that had been kicked out of the fields. :) Not Pepe and Limón, they were just chaperones.

Armando sat himself on a bucket where he designated himself "the worm extractor." The chickens had a feast!

Judging by pictures I must have not had a very good time. In every picture I look grouchy and stressed out. Maybe it was the worms. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe it was that the kids kept calling me "the girl with hair of corn." Despite all of this, I will carry happy memories of the harvest.

Wow... do these pictures brings back memories or what... We had a little stand one year to sell extra sweetcorn of the Incredible variety and one lady asked us what the variety was and so would not believe us that the name really was Incredible. Freezing sweet corn was a day when the family had to all pull together and tough it out for a few hours so we could later enjoy the amazing freshness of sweet corn. Love you lots Amy and can't wait to see you in a few days. Thanks for the post!!!
Praying for you!!!

Ames,
Cleaning sweetcorn is always such a hot and sticky job! I don't envy you at all.
Love ya,
Kris
Amy ~ I'm glad the "first" batch of corn is done. I remember looking at all that corn and thinking you would need a work team to come just to help you get it done!! Hope the heat hasn't been to unbearable. We got to visit with Gloria and meet Claudia yesterday in Bible School ~ what a nice surprise!
Love you,
Jill
Hola Chica Fresa, I wish I could help out ¨doing corn´ as my family called it back home. It makes me sad to miss eating it, but I´m not so sure of the worms either. The agriculturist on site should have a solution for this problem though. Take care, and have fun at home.
