Today we finished VBS and had 150+ kids. Overall, we haven't totalled it all yet, but We probably saw 200 kids throughout the week. Praise the Lord! A few moms came with there kids today and most of the kids acted like they want picked up for Sunday. God has been so faithful throughout this week. We were studying Abraham and today we talked about his willingness to sacrifice his own son. Of course that led to talking about Jesus' sacrifice as God's only son for each child in VBS and each one of us.
On the way home, we loaded up the bus, (we think about 74 kids, not counting the little ones) and delivered them to their neighborhoods. I wish you all could have the experience of being a chaperone on this bus. Pure insanity. (see picture of little girl with mouth open in pure excitement) When it was just Joe, (the fearless bus driver,) Dave, (a responsible chaperone) seven CVE kids and myself. We headed home by route of the "shortcut" that cuts through a riverbed. It has been rainy and we arrived at the riverbed where we saw a very stuck truck. The boys really wanted to help the stranded people in the truck, so we got out to ask for a chain. Dave ended up crossing the water to the truck and giving a "ride" to the mom, by picking her up off the hood and throwing her over his shoulder to dry land. Pretty funny. She went with us to her pueblo and we borrowed a tow strap from her neighbor. Right before we got back, one of the boys had a prayer that we could pull the truck out. It was a neat opportunity to talk with the boys about praying in faith, helping others even if it isn't the most convenient thing, and loving your neighbor as yourself. Joe, our expert driver, pulled the vehicle out without problem and we went on our merry way. When Francisco saw the time and realized we were late for lunch, he commented, "it doesn't matter that we missed lunch, it is better to help people. Amen Francisco. The parents we pulled out ended up being parents that had two children attending our VBS, a God-ordained connection.
Matthew 22:36-40
Please pray for all of the children as they share with what they have learned with their parents and also pray that on Sunday morning, each child and parent would want to come and hear more of God's Word.
